PSO360: Violins of Hope

For more than 30 years, Israeli violin maker and luthier Amnon Weinstein, the son of a Holocaust survivor, has devoted his life to finding and restoring a collection of instruments played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust. Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime experience as Pittsburgh Symphony musicians take center stage for an intimate evening of music in collaboration with the landmark Pittsburgh Violins of Hope community project.

The Clarion Quartet will perform Alexander Krein’s Two Sketches on Hebrew Themes, op 13 with PSO Principal Clarinetist Michael Rusinek as well as Divá noc (Wild Night), the final movement of Pavel Haas’s String Quartet No. 2 “Z opičích hor (From the Monkey Mountains)” with PSO Principal Percussionist Andy Reamer.

Across the performance, the treasured collection of instruments and their stories, previously silenced, will be given voice in this specially curated program inspired by resilience, perseverance and hope.
